Fairies are all around us, and if you look carefully with your heart and imagination you will see them! Fairies love sharing their joy with others, so let’s make houses for them.
WORKSHOP: Come make your very own fairy house on Saturday, August 10! Suitable for children ages 6+ and adults. Book a 1 hour slot at 10am, 11am or 12pm. Participants will have fun using a variety of magical supplies to design a fairy house. Finished houses will be displayed in the garden of Marblehead’s historic Jeremiah Lee Mansion.
PICNIC: On August 17, all fairy houses will be displayed in the enchanted garden of Marblehead’s historic Jeremiah Lee Mansion for everyone to enjoy (and for the fairies to move in!). Bring your own picnic and enjoy complimentary lemonade and cookies, too! Houses will be judged, and prizes will be given to the winning creations.
FAIRY HOUSE EXHIBIT DATES: The fairy houses may remain on display in the garden through August 24.
INDEPENDENTLY MADE HOUSES: For those interested in exhibiting their own fairy house which was made at home, houses may be dropped off at the Marblehead Museum (170 Washington Street, Marblehead, MA – across from the Lee Mansion) between August 13-16, Tuesday-Friday, 10am-4pm.
Join us for an evening program with author Katherine Howe to hear about her recent book, The Daughters of Temperance Hobbs.
Katherine Howe is a New York Times bestselling and award-winning writer of historical fiction. Her adult novels are The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane, which debuted at #2 on the New York Times bestseller list in 2009 and was named one of USA Today’s top tend books of the year, and The House of Velvet and Glass, which was a USA Today bestseller in 2011.
She holds a BA in art history and philosophy from Columbia and an MA in American and New England studies from Boston University, and she has taught American history, visual culture, and writing at BU and Cornell.

Mystery! Intrigue! Join us at the Mansion and help solve the mystery of Jeremiah and Martha’s estate inventories taken after their deaths. Explore the Lee Mansion for clues and information – work alone or form a team of investigators. Perhaps you’ll solve the mysteries that are part of this historic location, or perhaps you’ll be a suspect!

Join us for a lecture with Anne Barrett on the 18th century clairvoyant, Moll Pitcher. Lynn clairvoyant Moll Pitcher’s predictions of an ill-fated voyage were so powerful that they could render a ship crew-less if word got out. This 18th century sybil is said to have made predictions that came to pass long after her death, including the radio, and she numbered among her clients such notables as the wealthy and eccentric Lord Timothy Dexter. This presentation has a surprise ending.

Explore five of Marblehead’s finest privately-owned Revolutionary and post-Revolutionary-era houses, all built for families who put their lives on the line to fight for independence and the establishment of the fledgling country. During this self-guided house tour, guests may set their own pace as they walk the streets of downtown Marblehead to visit these storied historic homes. The tour also includes the two gems of what is referred to as Bank Square: the Jeremiah Lee Mansion (owned and operated by Marblehead Museum) and the Robert “King” Hooper Mansion (the only Tory home on the tour, owned by the Marblehead Arts Association).
