Our archives are available to scholars and researchers by appointment. From genealogical materials to building histories to over 20,000 photographs — we're here to help you uncover Marblehead's past.
The Marblehead Museum Archives are housed at 170 Washington Street. Available to scholars and researchers, the Archives are a treasure trove of personal papers, books, journals, genealogical materials, building histories, and over 20,000 photographs. Collection highlights include documents related to the 18th and 19th shipping and fishing industries, as well as the local shoemaking industry.

Requests for research are submitted through our online form and processed in the order they are received. Please be as detailed as possible to allow us to better understand the scope of your request. We ask that you allow 4-6 weeks to fulfill your requests; all results are delivered electronically unless otherwise arranged.
Online research requests are charged for a minimum of 1 hour at the rate of:
$25 Non-members · $20 Members

The Marblehead Museum provides reproduction and permissions services for both visiting and long-distance researchers. All fees must be paid in advance of service when invoiced. A complete schedule for reproduction and permissions fees is available below. Images must be accompanied by the following citation: "Marblehead Museum Collection."
